Historically, many small-scale farmers in Indonesia have faced limited access to and understanding of technologies that can help increase their aquaculture productivity. To address this, the AgResults Indonesia Aquaculture Challenge Project (2021-2026) leveraged a Pay-for-Results prize competition to mobilize the private sector and drive uptake of aerators, auto-feeders, and technical assistance (TA) among fish and shrimp farmers. Through these efforts, participating competitors sold 8,767 units of technology, rented 5,301 units of technology, and delivered 855 TA packages to a total of 4,693 small-scale farmers across 34 provinces in Indonesia.
This impact video illustrates the project’s journey and impact to boost technology adoption and technical assistance to improve the productivity of shrimp and fish farmers.
This project is part of AgResults, a $152 million collaborative initiative between the governments of Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the World Bank Group that uses prize competitions to incentivize the private sector to overcome market barriers and create lasting change.
